VIP Raku Firing Experience will be a hands on learning experience before and during our 1st Annual Clay Fest.

Friday evening we will meet up, talk about the process, glaze our pieces and prepare for the Saturday firing. Raku firing begins 8am on Saturday (early entry to the Clay Fest)

VIPs can have up to 2 pieces fired with size restrictions -no more that 9 inches tall and 6 inches wide. Students must bring bisqued raku clay forms on Friday 4/19 at 6pm. Please purchase approved raku clay and glazes from Ceramica. We will have 1 or 2 raku glazes on hand if you would like to use ours. We will glaze together on Friday evening. VIP can store pieces on site overnight.

For Safety: Be aware of the exposure to a smoking environment (a mask is optional), VIPs must bring gloves for handling heat, wear cotton clothing and long sleeves, pants and closed toed shoes. Participants will need to bring a combustion chamber to share. (Metal container with a lid) that fits your 2 pieces. Be prepared to assist with various tasks before, during and after the firings such as setting up and breaking down the firing area, watching the pots inside the kiln, removing kiln lid, helping with adding combustable sources to combustion chambers such as newspaper or wood chips, removing pots from kiln and combustion chambers.

Please plan to bring a chair, sun protection, water to stay hydrated and food since it will be a long day. If you play an instrument feel free to bring and entertain!

We will provide 1 or 2 raku glazes, wood shavings and dry material for firing. We provide all kiln materials and instruction and access to water and fire extinguishers.

Optional to bring- other combustable materials that are without chemicals- all natural, feathers or horse hairs, newspaper/straw, pine straw, fire protection clothes and safety glasses.

We will be firing the kiln through 4pm that day. Please plan to help with break down and clean up as well as help the general public who will have the option to glaze have their peices fired onsite.

There is opportunity for horse hair process pottery but you will need to burnish pieces before bringing.

In case of inclement weather - we will set up kiln under our outdoor shelter.

* If you are a vendor as well you must set up your booth prior to the firing and have a 2nd person to help run your booth while you are helping with the firings through out the day.

*General public admitted to the Carolina Clay Fest 10am-4pm. No Entry fee

Payment plan available: $50 deposit plus 1 payment of $25.00, paid every four weeks.
